Russia Exports Products in High-Tech Fiberglass Cases to 20 Countries

The fiberglass containers made by Central Scientific - Research Institute for Precision Machine Engineering (TsNIITochMash) and accepted by military supervisors are used for packaging of products exported to 20 countries, the institute’s press service told Mil.Press Today. However, as was earlier reported, due to lacking national standard, in Russia such advanced polymer cases are used not for new shells and ammunitions, but only for repacking of stock reserves.

"Development of containers is duly controlled by the military supervisors under specifications provided by the customers. Only Russian-made materials are applied", said the TsNIITochMash press service.

For export purposes, the company mainly produces general-climate version of dust/moisture-proof containers. The work on this project started back in 1997; it was related to export supplies of Kornet-E antitank missile systems to UAE. Today, TsNIITochMashcommercially manufactures about 200 types of fiberglass cases based on somewhat 50 typical sizes. "Annual output of boxes and containers mainly used for optoelectronic and electronic equipment reaches several thousands of items. We supply packages to over 30 Russia’s leading defense companies", the institute’s spokesman told Mil.Press Today

Valery Ilyukhin, heading Technical Committee 701 at Federal Agency for Technical Regulations (Rosstandard) and coordinating standardization of military equipment packaging, offered TsNIITochMash to base on its production experience and provide comments for the second edition of the national standard for weapons and ammunitions storage containers. Military officials will convene to discuss it on October 30, 2018. Rosstandard also expects additional requirements from the Russian Navy and the Russian Airspace Force, as they have specific procedures for ammo packaging.

The first edition of the national standard for the up-to-date military containers was presented on August 9. It was adopted upon voting attended by representatives of the Defense Ministry, National Guard, container producers, defense corporations and research organizations. One of the participants, a company named RT Polyurethanes (25% shares held by Kalashnikov), already has a
backlog of orders for 120,000 boxes to repack ammo stock reserves. However, deliveries of new shells in advanced containers to the Russian Defense Ministry are not systematic so far. For that end, the new packing should be included into the ammunition structure, which will be simplier once the national standard is adopted.

Central Scientific - Research Institute for Precision Machine Engineering (TsNIITochMash) is Russia’s leading developer of ammunitions and military outfit. In particular, the company produces and supplies Ratnik infantry combat system to the Russian military. Among the small arms designed by TsNIITochMash are Pecheneg machinegun, Val silenced assault rifle, Vikhr
small-size assault rifle, and a family of dual-media weapons for combat swimmers and special-task units.
